SUMMARY:Clinically Relevant Herb-Drug Interactions: A 30-year Historical Perspective
DESCRIPTION:❤ Pay from the heart pricing available. Also see below event description.\n\n$17 – Click here to Register\n$37 – Click here to Register\n$57 – Click here to Register\n\nClinically Relevant Herb-Drug Interactions: A 30-year Historical Perspective\n\n\nJoin Bill J. Gurley\, Ph.D.\, a leading researcher in dietary supplement safety and efficacy\, for an exploration of the rise of botanical dietary supplements over the past 30 years and their potential for clinically significant herb–drug interactions. This session will highlight key botanicals linked to pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic mechanisms and offer insights into their implications for safe clinical practice. What You Will Learn:\nThe Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act\, a legislative measure\nushering in a novel class of complementary healthcare products known as dietary supplements\, had its 30th anniversary in October 2024. Over this 30-year period\, dietary supplement usage evolved from a few hundred products made up mostly of vitamins\, minerals\, and select botanical extracts to more than 75\,000 single and multi-ingredient products that are now regular staples in the American healthcare system and used by half of all U.S. consumers.\n\nOne of the fastest-growing segments of the dietary supplement market during this 3-decade interval has been those products formulated with botanical extracts. Coincident with the growing popularity of botanical dietary supplements (BDS) has been their concomitant ingestion with conventional prescription medications. When taken with prescription drugs\, BDS may give rise to clinically significant herb–drug interactions (HDI).\n\nPharmacodynamic HDI describe interactions between phytochemicals and conventional medications at the drug receptor level\, while pharmacokinetic HDI stem from phytochemical-mediated induction and/or inhibition of human drug metabolizing enzymes and/or transporters. This focus session will summarize BDS identified over the last 30 years that pose clinically relevant HDI and whose mechanisms are either pharmacodynamically or pharmacokinetically mediated.\nTeacher Name:  Bill J. Gurley\, Ph.D.\nTeacher Bio:  Bill J. Gurley is a leading researcher in the field of dietary supplement safety and efficacy\, with nearly 30 years of experience in basic and clinical research. He currently serves as Professor and Principal Scientist at the National Center for Natural Products Research (NCNPR) at the University of Mississippi\, where he co-directs the Clinical Research Facility and chairs the university’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.  Before joining NCNPR in 2019\, he was a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy\, where he also served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Chair of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.\nDr. Gurley’s research has played a critical role in shaping regulatory policies on dietary supplements. His work on Ephedra-containing supplements contributed to the FDA’s 2004 decision to remove these products from the U.S. market. He was also the first investigator to systematically evaluate the herb-drug interaction potential of popular dietary supplements and assess their clinical relevance. His research team was the first to document the serious clinical implications of herb-drug interactions involving St. John’s wort\, influencing how such interactions are understood and managed.\n\nHis primary research interests include clinical pharmacokinetics\, herb-drug interaction mechanisms\, safety evaluation of multi-component botanical dietary supplements (BDS)\, phytochemical modulation of human drug-metabolizing enzymes and transport proteins\, human phytochemical disposition\, and BDS dosage form performance. These efforts have resulted in more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications.\n\nDr. Gurley is an expert panel member for the United States Pharmacopeia’s Dietary Supplements division\, an advisor to the American Botanical Council\, and a co-editor of the American Herbal Products Association’s Botanical Safety Handbook. He also serves on the editorial boards of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics\, Phytomedicine\, HerbalGram\, and Clinical Therapeutics.\n\nHe earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Tennessee Technological University\, followed by a B.S. in Pharmacy and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.\nAbout Focus Sessions\nMonthly online workshops focusing on mentorship\, business\, clinical\, and community herbalism to foster professional development in the herbalism community.\n🗓️ Add to Calendar: Once you have RSVP’d\, click ‘Add to calendar’ to add the event to your preferred calendar. SUMMARY:Webinar Intensive Series: How to Find More Clients with Camille Freeman
DESCRIPTION:📆 Wednesdays\, March 18\, 25\, April 1\, 8\n\n⏱️ 6:00pm – 8:00pm ET / 3:00pm – 5:00pm PT\n\n🎁 AHG Members receive $50 toward any webinar intensive! Use the coupon code found in the member discounts space when checking out for this and other intensives.\n\nJoin live or watch the recordings.\n\nAbout This Course\n\nStruggling to find enough clients to sustain your practice without feeling salesy or in over your head? Many herbalists rely on word-of-mouth\, tinker with social media\, or sign up for expensive online courses without any discernible results. It’s no wonder\, since most of us are trained in herbalism\, not in marketing.\nPromoting your practice doesn’t have to be a guessing game.\nIn this intensive\, you’ll create a simple marketing plan based on foundational business principles. We’ll clarify who you help and how to describe your work in language that’s accurate and easy for clients to understand. You’ll leave with a personalized plan for how to meet new people\, how to stay in touch with interested folks\, and how to invite them to work with you in ways that feel ethical and and aligned with your values and voice.\nThis framework works for many types of clinicians\, including introverts\, those with very limited time to devote to marketing\, low‑tech practitioners\, and those who avoid social media\, because your plan is customized for your voice\, your capacity\, and the ways you prefer to show up in community.\nBecause you can’t know what will work until you try it\, you’ll also set up a lightweight system to track results\, run small experiments\, and adapt your plan so it’s both feasible and effective for your practice.\nWith a solid plan in place\, you can stop wasting time on haphazard tactics (or feeling guilty for doing no marketing at all). You’ll know what to do each week to promote your practice and have simple data to guide your next steps. Over four weeks we’ll build a plan that’s true to your values\, time‑efficient\, and tailored to your capacity and community.\n\nTeacher Name: Camille Freeman\n\nTeacher Bio: Camille Freemaan\, DCN\, RH\, has been in practice as an herbalist and nutritionist since 2003\, with a focus on fertility\, pregnancy\, and menstrual health. In addition to the many natural tools we can offer family\, friends and clients with herbs\, diet & supplements\, herbalists can play an important role in integrative healthcare teams. We will share examples and invite dialogue about how to navigate between alternative and conventional healthcare approaches. \nTeacher Bios: \nDr Ingrid Bauer MD\, MS has been studying\, teaching\, and practicing medicine and nutrition for nearly 20 years.
