The Journal of the American Herbalists Guild (JAHG) invites submissions for the Fall/Winter 2026 issue. As a peer-reviewed scholarly journal, JAHG provides a platform for exploring all aspects of herbalism with an emphasis on clinical practice, historical traditions, and professional applications of botanicals.
Theme:
Facilitating Regulation: The Role of Clinical Herbalism in Autoimmunity & Chronic Conditions
This issue explores how clinical herbalism supports physiological regulation and resilience in the context of autoimmune and chronic health conditions. Herbalists working with complex and long-term health challenges often draw from both traditional knowledge and emerging clinical insight to support balance across body systems, including immune modulation, nervous system regulation, and metabolic stability.
The theme also aligns with the 2026 American Herbalists Guild Symposium, creating an opportunity to extend the conversation beyond the conference setting and into the written scholarly record. Through this issue, JAHG seeks to deepen and preserve the insights emerging from the symposium theme while expanding the discussion through clinical experience, historical analysis, and interdisciplinary perspectives.
We invite submissions that examine how herbal practice contributes to restoring regulatory processes, supporting the body’s ability to adapt, and improving quality of life for individuals living with chronic illness.
Topics may include, but are not limited to:
- Clinical herbal approaches to autoimmune conditions
- Botanical strategies supporting immune modulation and inflammatory balance
- Nervous system regulation in chronic illness and autoimmune presentations
- Herbal support for long-term metabolic, endocrine, or inflammatory disorders
- Case studies highlighting complex or chronic presentations
- Integrative perspectives combining traditional herbal frameworks with contemporary clinical practice
- Historical or cultural perspectives on herbal approaches to chronic illness
- Ethical considerations and practitioner experiences in long-term client care
We welcome articles, clinical case studies, and artwork that explore these themes from clinical, historical, cultural, or research perspectives.
We particularly encourage submissions from underrepresented communities, diverse clinical traditions, and emerging voices in herbalism, ensuring a breadth of perspectives within the field.
