Co-Directed by AC Hill and Gabriel Mojay, the Actaea Institute provides a ‘live & lively’, individually supportive approach to teaching the key skills and expertise required for the practice and/or business of Herbalism and Aromatherapy. Our flagship Diploma Course in Clinical Herbalism & Botanical Aromatherapy encompasses herb-growing, wildcrafting, extraction and distillation, herbal and aromatic medicine-making, constitutional health assessment and formulating. We apply the use of medicinal herbs and essential oils from the perspective of their evidence-based biological activities as well as their body-mind benefits according to traditional Chinese & East Asian medicine (TCM) and the Oriental Five Elements, in particular.
ACTAEA DIPLOMA COURSE
Our Diploma Course is made up of a series of 32 live, online 3-hour webinars withCo-Directors AC Hill and Gabriel Mojay held over a period of 8 months followed by 6 months of guided client case study practice: 14 months in total, from Oct ‘26 to Dec ‘27. During the clinical practice period, students complete 20 individual client case studies, in their own time, in order to achieve the full Diploma qualification. The Diploma is awarded in addition to the Certificate of Completion students are issued on satisfactory completion of the live study period of weekly webinars finishing in June ‘27.
In terms of its delivery, our Diploma course is not an ‘asynchronous’ program — it’s a live, weekly interactive learning experience! Each Sunday session provides students with an opportunity to engage directly with the instructors as well as interact with fellow students to enliven and enrich learning.
In terms of its content, the course is a unique combining of hands-on herb craft and medicinal plant science, Western pathophysiology and Eastern therapeutic wisdom, and Herbalism & Aromatherapy. Personally hosted by AC & Gabriel, our Sunday morning ‘live & lively’ webinars feature group chat and sharing, immersive presentations, and learning that’s both absorbing and practical.
A LEARNING SYNERGY
Our Diploma course benefits from the input of two deeply-committed and engaged teachers and their complementary perspectives: AC provides her insights and practical knowledge as a Western-trained Herbalist, herb grower, product-maker, businesswoman, community organizer and Nature visionary; Gabriel shares his 4 decades of experience as a London-based Herbal and Acupuncture clinician, university-trained educator, and author of ‘Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit’ (Healing Arts Press), published in a dozen different languages.
Supported by AC’s focus on herbal remedies and their production and use, Gabriel presents the core outline of their clinical application according to the Yin-Yang Patterns of Disharmony of TCM. AC shares her highly self-sustaining approach to diet, nutrition, and women’s health; Gabriel brings in his aromatic perspective with the expert use of essential oils supported by an appreciation of their chemistry, energetics, and the ancient Astrological symbolism of their aromatic plant sources.
During the final stages of our live weekly online program, students observe case study consultations with student-hosted volunteers, giving learners the foundations of clinical experience they take forward by completing case study work in their own time. Every stage of studies is supported by over 2000 presentation slides together with Rachel Lord’s outstanding comprehensive text, ‘Clinical Herbalism’ (Elsevier, 2022).

Our Diploma course features three Special Guest Teachers as part of the program: leading herbalist and herbal chemistry teacher Lisa Ganora, pre-eminent community herbalist 7Song, and folk herbalist and Vedic Astrologer Isaac Alexander Hill.

AC Hill brings to the Institute her experience as an Herbalist, Herb Farmer, product-maker, educator and podcaster. From Cohosh Creek Farm, she grows numerous varieties of herbs, fruits, trees & fungi, and under TravelingHerbFarmer.com retails small-batch, hand-made herbal remedies. Together with her husband Isaac Hill, she co-hosts the popular Plant Cunning Podcast, available on YouTube & Spotify.
GABRIEL – BRIEF BIO
Gabriel Mojay LAc,CertEd brings 4 decades of experience in the UK & US as a practitioner and teacher of Clinical Aromatherapy, European and Chinese Herbal Medicine, Acupuncture, and an approach to bodywork that combines the synergistic benefits of Acupressure Massage and essential oils. He specializes in Aromatic Herbalism and the safe herbal use of essential oils together with understanding and applying plant medicines generally according to the clinical wisdom of traditional Asian medicine.
ASTROLOGICAL HERBALISM
Gabriel also offers a 25-hour live online course on Astrological Herbalism & Aromatherapy: the Inner Healing Virtues of 50 Aromatic Herbs & Oils. The Appalachian Center for Natural Health offers three certificate programs of instruction: Family Herbalist Program (FHP), Community Herbalist Program (CHP) and the Herbal Practitioner Program (HPP). Together all three form the Practitioner Program at ACNH.
The Family Herbalist Program is a nine month foundation program with an emphasis on learning your herbs and your body. It includes herbs for specific body systems, the functional physiology of the primary body systems, and home remedies based on both folk remedies and science.
In the Community Herbalist Program, you’ll build on the information learned in the Family Herbalist Program. In CHP, we move into a deeper understanding of how the body works by looking at the functioning of the endocrine system, how we make energy, methylation, epigenetics, and herbs, foods, and other aids for balance.
The student will learn about natural approaches to mental health issues, autoimmune disorders, herb/drug interactions and contraindications, chronic illnesses, and healthy aging. We’ll continue to look at the effect of nutrition on health and well-being, especially the effect of nutrition on specific disorders. Case studies abound in HPP.

ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism offers a 3 year professional program for those wishing to pursue clinical herbal knowledge since 2012. We incorporate a number of traditional energetic approaches, including Traditional Western Herbalism, Vitalism, Ayurveda, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Expert instructors come with a well-developed philosophy and practice, offering a range of perspectives that contribute to a diverse and exceptional herbal education.
Classes are a hybrid of in-person and live online instruction. Students can expect to spend 1 weekend (3 days) per month in-person and 3 weekdays per month live online. Some days will be spent outdoors within the Hudson Valley area. Students who complete the first year of study at ArborVitae can expect to gain an essential understanding of herbal medicine, with application for friends and family. The second and third year curricula delves more specifically into clinical herbalism and further specializations in herbal practices. The three years are designed to be comprehensive.
Our free Community Herb Clinic, staffed by our 3rd year clinical students under supervision of faculty, provides services both on-site and remotely, with mutual sharing of herbal knowledge and traditions. We also offer community classes throughout the year to support our mission of being a progressive community resource for increasing public access to comprehensive herbal knowledge and care.

Bridget’s Botanicals, in Historic Downtown Littleton, CO, offers in-person herbal education alongside a working retail apothecary.
Our Global Herbal Foundations runs 7 months October–mid-June, covering herbal formula-making including aromatherapy, oils, teas, creams, salves, and tinctures, as well as phytochemistry, herbal actions, and global healing traditions and rituals from Italy, Ireland, Belize, Mexico, and the Peruvian Amazon. Students explore ~30 herbs and have the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship hours for hands-on practice at the apothecary.
Our Advanced Herbalism program runs late September–early June, opening with a mountain cabin retreat weekend. The program covers body systems through the lens of herbal energetics and the Four Humours of Galenic medicine, plus current herbal research, case studies, continued formulation practice, and development of your own rituals for well-being.
Students in either program can extend their study through our Wild Spirit Herbalism Retreats. This optional immersive jungle program in Belize provides an invitation to experience deep connection with biodiversity while studying indigenous plant knowledge alongside local healers.
Founder Bridget Molloy has practiced herbalism for 17 years, founding Bridget’s Botanicals in 2014 and opening her Littleton apothecary in 2023. She holds degrees in ecology and molecular biology (CU Boulder), a Master’s in Teaching for Science with a Graduate Certificate in Global Ecology Education (Boston University), graduate coursework in pharmacology and medicinal chemistry (Harvard University, Georgetown University), and certificates in Sexual Wellness, Community Herbalism, Advanced Herbalism, Celtic Spirituality, and Women in Leadership (CU Colorado Springs). A former high school science teacher and adjunct biology professor (CU Denver, Arapahoe Community College), such currently serves as an offsite instructor for Arapahoe Community College. Bridget grew up in Littleton, Colorado with herb and vegetable gardens, camping in the mountains, and doing science experiments as a hobby.

Where plants, story, science, and relationship meet.
Effective herbal medicine begins long before a plant goes into a jar. At Cedar Mountain Herb School in Sandpoint, Idaho, Suzanne Tabert teaches the entire process: accurate identification, responsible harvest, plant constituents and their actions in the body, formulation, dosing and preparation methods that best extract and preserve the medicine. Her field experience and master storytelling make complex concepts easier to understand and remember. Students leave able to explain what they’ve made and why they made it that way.
Learning takes place across the varied ecosystems of the Pacific and Inland Northwest and on Suzanne’s farmlet, with its extensive herb gardens. In the Roots to Tips Herbal Apprenticeship, a small dedicated cohort spends 4 months learning and making medicine together, with guided study between in-person classes. Plant and land stewardship guide the fieldwork, while lessons in healthy living help students put their herbal knowledge to use in daily life. The time spent working together also builds a community of classmates who share skills and care for one another.
For students learning from home, Herbal Materia Medica Monthly provides a year of in-depth study of twelve plants with a bonus of 20 plants at the end of the subscription. Weekly lessons cover identification, constituents, actions, safety, harvesting, preparations, recipes, formulation, anatomy and physiology, videos and more. Cedar Mountain Herb School also offers in-person intensives, one day workshops, webinars, educational articles and ebooks, podcast episodes and a free Introduction to Herbalism eBook.
Suzanne Tabert is a bioregional herbalist, storyteller, author, and educator who has taught thousands of students over nearly 40 years. She is an adjunct instructor in Bastyr University’s Botanical Medicine Department, where she has taught for 14 years, and regularly speaks at in-person and online herbal conferences and events. Her writing appears on the Mountain Rose Herbs blog and in Homestead Living, Willow & Sage, Christian Herbal Magazine, and other publications. Suzanne is the author of Quest for Calm: Using Herbs & Lifestyle Changes to Create Resilient Emotional Health and Wild & Beautiful: An Herbal Encyclopedia for Naturally Healthy Skin; her forthcoming book, The Forager’s Apothecary: Remedies and Recipes for 50 Common Wild Plants, will be published by Lyons Press in March 2027.

CSCH is an in-person and online Herbalism school in Lafayette, CO and offers Fundamentals, Advanced, and Clinical training in Western Herbalism, Integrated Nutrition, Field Botany, and Flower Essences. We are approved and regulated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education. Our Vitalist curriculum incorporates aspects of physiology and pathophysiology and equally values knowledge from traditional medicine, empirical observation, instinct, and intuition. We are a conscious community who values all individuals and cultivate a space for learning, care, and respect.
