About this Focus Session:  A Client Centered Approach to Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease experienced by more than 10% of adults in North America, and its precursor, insulin resistance, is even more prevalent. This Focus Session will expand on the pathophysiology of insulin resistance to include interconnections with hormones, the liver, the thyroid, stress, systemic oppression and more. While the dominant medical paradigm focuses on symptoms like weight gain, a holistic approach can address underlying root causes and offer whole person support through a client-centred, body-positive and harm reduction approach. From this lens, you will learn how to frame realistic and empowering goals, and craft effective herbal protocols based on the individual client’s unique goals and barriers.
