The Use of Herbalism in Doula Work: A Return to Ancestral Practices with Tracy Cook-Person

March 14 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm EDT

This event has passed.

FREE Public Webinar:

The medicalization of birth grew significantly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The shift from midwives and doulas to hospital births marked the beginning of many cultures abandoning the practices that had long supported and affirmed women during pregnancy and childbirth.

In this webinar, we will explore African American herbal practices, including the use of ginger and oat straw in early pregnancy to relieve nausea and promote calm, moringa for nutrition, red raspberry leaf and okra to prepare for childbirth, and fennel, oat, and nettle to support lactation. We will also discuss restorative culinary recipes to help restore vitality during the fourth trimester and postpartum recovery phase. 🌱
