As a member-driven, nonprofit organization committed to elevating clinical herbalism as a respected, accessible, and inclusive profession, we are looking for a dynamic and visionary leader who is passionate about herbal medicine and experienced in organizational stewardship.
About the Role The Executive Director will serve as the strategic and operational leader of AHG, working in close collaboration with our Board of Directors, staff, members, and broader herbal medicine community. This position encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including strategic planning, financial oversight, program development, member engagement, and external advocacy.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Championing AHG’s mission through effective leadership and representation
- Overseeing operations and member services, including webinars, publications, and events
- Managing finances and driving sustainable growth through fundraising and partnerships
- Cultivating a vibrant and diverse community of herbal professionals and students
- Supporting AHG’s Board and committees with transparency and integrity
Ideal Candidates Will Possess:
- At least 5 years of leadership experience in a nonprofit, association, or allied organization
- A strong track record in fundraising, program development, and financial management
- Deep familiarity with the herbal medicine landscape (clinical practice, education, regulation)
- Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills
- A bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred in nonprofit management, herbal medicine, or related fields)

Position Overview
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and financial sustainability of AHG. The ED works closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and members to advance the organization’s mission and goals. This role requires a dynamic, visionary leader with a passion for herbal medicine, nonprofit management, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
• Develop and implement strategic initiatives in alignment with AHG’s mission and vision.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture that supports professional herbalists and the broader herbal medicine community.
• Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for AHG, representing the organization at conferences, public events, and in media relations.
• Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including herbalists, educators, researchers, regulatory bodies, and allied organizations.
Operational & Program Management
• Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and adherence to AHG’s policies.
• Lead program development, including educational initiatives, webinars, publications, and conferences.
• Support the work of AHG’s committees and volunteers, fostering engagement and participation.
Financial & Fundraising Oversight
• Develop and manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial stability and transparency.
• Oversee membership growth and retention strategies, enhancing the value of AHG’s services.
• Identify and secure funding sources, including grants, sponsorships, and donor contributions.
Membership & Community Engagement
• Strengthen and expand AHG’s membership base through outreach, partnerships, and enhanced member benefits.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization and the broader herbalist community.
• Facilitate networking and mentorship opportunities for herbalists at all career stages.
Board & Staff Relations
• Collaborate with the Board of Directors on governance, policy development, and strategic planning.
• Recruit, supervise, and support staff and contractors, ensuring a high-functioning and motivated team.
• Provide regular updates and reports to the Board, ensuring informed decision making.
Qualifications & Experience
• Strong commitment to AHG’s mission and the field of herbal medicine. • Minimum of five years of leadership experience in a nonprofit, association, or related organization.
• Proven track record in fundraising, financial management, and budget oversight. • Experience in program development, community engagement, and membership growth.
• Exceptional communication, networking, and advocacy skills.
• Experience partnering with board of directors and board committees, preferred. • Familiarity with the herbal medicine landscape, including professional practice, education, and regulatory considerations, is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree in nonprofit management, business administration, herbal medicine, or a related field is a plus.
