Samuel Thomson was an herbalist who popularized the use of herbal medicine in pioneer America. After publishing his, New Guide to Health, millions of people adopted Thomsonian botanical medicine as a primary means of health care. Thomson's work and teachings lead to the neo-Thomsonian movement and eventually the Physio-Medical movement, which greatly influenced the Eclectics. In Utah, were I live, all the early physicians were Thomsonians, and the journal of one of these herb doctors, Priddy Meeks, influenced John Christopher to start the modern day herb movement in Utah.
